Musée d’Orsay in Paris
What’s not to love? It’s home to the most impressionist and post-impressionist art of any other museum in the world. It’s a dream come true to see original works of art by many larger than life artists like Renior, Van Gogh, Monet, Manet, Degas, Cézanne, Millet, and more.
The Musée d’Orsay’s home is the former Gare d’Orsay train station, which was built in time for the 1900 Exposition Universelle. The station closed in 1939, but it wasn’t until 1986 that it officially opened its doors as a museum.
The architect of this beautiful Gare d’Orsay was Victor Laloux (1850-1937). It is a masterpiece of modernism and industry in 1900. He also designed the Musée d’Orsay Clock (1898) that is as famous as the works of art inside.
I’ll create a few posts to highlight some of my favorite pieces, though I took pictures of almost everything. Typical tourist! But I was happy to delight in the beauty. Ahhh!
