Adding color to Wolf Boy & His Magical Warriors

I’m happy to give you an update on our soon to be released all ages comic (graphic novel,  bd, or whatever else you want to call it) – Wolf Boy & His Magical Warriors! Miguel has finished the pencils (drawings) and the inks. Now it’s my turn to pick palettes and add color. This page is essential because we introduce Tessi the Amazon! The madcap trio finally meets for the first time. Let the mayhem begin!

Tessi the Amazon

Penthesilea (aka “Tessi”) is working hard to make a name for herself as a leader and a warrior. She decides to leave her home to test her skills by looking for monsters and villains to battle. TESSI was raised to be strong, endure any type of hardship, be responsible, wise, and above all, to defend people from powerful villains. She is the most hard working, agile and best strategist of her generation. However, she has a dangerously bad temper and cannot suffer fools.

Although Wolf Boy annoys her so much that she often can’t stand him, he has a nose for finding adventure, especially the type that ends in epic battles (which are surprisingly difficult to find). So all things considered, Wolf Boy and Monkey King are just the sort of companions Tessi is looking for.

What is Wolf Boy about?

If you mix SpongeBob SquarePants with Asterix and then add a dash of Conan the Barbarian, you’ll begin to understand Wolf Boy and His Magical Warriors. This quirky all-ages graphic novel series introduces kids to major events in ancient history, but adds a comedic twist.

What does the cover look like?

I’m glad you asked! Here’s the cover to volume 1 called, The Flushing of Atlantis. As the title implies, Wolf Boy, Monkey King and Tessi the Amazon will dive headlong into hilariously treacherous situations. Will Atlantis survive this triad of mischief and mayhem? Umm…probably not.

Show me the pages! Here’s a few panels from page 37 with the inks and flat colors done. Once I complete the flat colors, I pass it back to Miguel for the highlights and shading. He adds that pop! Then it’s back to me for the lettering and sounds effects. There’s still a lot of work to be done, but we’re definitely having fun along the way.

Introducing Tessi the Amazon!

We finally introduce the third member of our madcap trio – Tessi – on page 37. I was so happy to finally get to the page with her first meeting with Wolf Boy and Monkey King that I wanted to share it with you.

Here’s where it all started. Wolf Boy and the Wrath of Stickybeard covers Wolf Boy’s origins. He falls off the back of a wagon and is raised by a mythical two-headed she-wolf called Volupa.
