Petit Cochon Noir by Djé, from comics to crochet

Djé has a comic character called Petit Cochon Noir. You can see more of work on Instagram and Facebook. His friend asked me to create a crochet version…a custom toy. I was happy to try, especially since it would be a very cool surprise.

Crochet Little Black Pig

Adapting a 2D drawing into a 3D toy can be challenging. My first attempt stayed very close to the proportions of the drawing. But things in 2D can sometimes look wrong in 3D. His legs and torso looked too ‘human’ and then with a long snout it wasn’t cute or charming any more. So, I made them shorter (like the little guy with wings) and made the eyes large, but not as huge. The oversized ears also worked better with a smaller version.

So, here is my simplified version…
