My second Fallas in Valencia and the thrill has not worn off. For one week neighbourhoods all over Valencia construct hundreds of huge wooden, cardboard, or papier-mâché sculptures, known as ninots. On the last night – March 19th – La Cremà takes place, where all of that money and effort literally goes up in smoke. Firecrackers are used to light things up and the burning commences. Firefighters stand by while cheering crowds help mark the end of another successful and fleeting celebration. I’ve taken photos from 2013 – 2016 and thought I’d finally add them to my blog.
