To Barcelona or Not to Barcelona?
What’s the best bang for you buck? Is all the hype about Barcelona true? I lived in Spain for four years before I finally got my chance to visit Barcelona and I thought – “What took me so long?” Should I have been living here the whole time?”…but I digress. Even though clouds brought rain for part of my holiday, the umbrellas and puddles didn’t dampen the city’s beauty. I will definitely return to soak in more of the culture and see everything I missed this time around.
While there are the impressive tourist attractions — La Sagrada Família, La Rambla, Parc Güell (Gaudí’s Surrealist Park), Barri Gòtic (Gothic Quarter), Casa Batlló, Quadrat d’Or (Quadrant of Gold), etc., etc., etc., and let’s not forget the beach! — the best part of Barcelona is wandering around and seeing the people, the buildings, and the businesses. Almost every shop, café, restaurant, bakery, and business I came across was decked out in style. The people put such love and panache into where they work or what they do it’s hard not to walk in and buy something. It’s not the city that makes the people, it’s the people that make Barcelona.
Here are photos of my meanderings as the city and its people beguiled me with their charm.
