POOKA from Dig Dug ☆FREE Pattern☆

$0.00

Digging Through the 80s for Explosively Fun Toys

We introduced my son to a few classics like Pac-Man, Galaga, Mappy, and Dig Dug.

After creating a FREE pattern for Dig Dug, I couldn’t resist making the next coolest character in Dig Dug and Pac-Man — Pooka! Even Disney couldn’t resist including this explosively cute little guy in Wreck It Ralph  ᗣᗣᗣᗣ ᗤ

GOGGLES: Band
* Using yellow yarn and a 2.5 mm hook.
* Looking at the side of the goggles, find the middle where the band would naturally be. Attach the yellow yarn one row below where you think the middle is. The band will consist of 3 rows, so you want the second row (or middle row) to sit in the middle of the goggles once you’ve completed the band.
To begin, CH22.
R1: CH1, turn. In the second CH from the hook, SC (21)
• Find the stitch parallel to where you attached the yarn on the opposite side and SC to that stitch.
R2: CH1, turn. SC EVEN across (21)
•  Find the stitch parallel to where you attached the yarn on the opposite side, one row above where you attached the last stitch. SC to that stitch.
R3: CH1, turn. SC EVEN across (21)
•  Find the stitch parallel to where you attached the yarn on the opposite side, one row above where you attached the last stitch. SC to that stitch.
* F/O and weave in ends.

LEGS (make 2)
* Using yellow yarn and a 2.5 mm hook.
R1: MR, SC 6 (6)
R2: BLO, EVEN (6)

R8: 2TOG x 2 (4)

FEET (make 2)
* Using yellow yarn and a 2.5 mm hook.
R1: MR, SC 6 (6)
R2: BLO, EVEN (6)
R3: EVEN (6)
* F/O and leave tail for sewing on to the body. See the ASSEMBLY section for more information.

TAIL (make 2)
* Start with white yarn and a 2.5 mm hook.
R1: MR, SC6 (6)
R2: BLO, EVEN across (6)
R3: EVEN (6). You can stuff with a pice of scrap white yarn to keep the tail stiff.
R4: SC3. Leave the remaining stitches unworked.
R5: CH1, turn. SC3
R6: CH1, turn. SC3
TIP: In R5 and R6, I created a bend or curve, then continued to SC all the way around in R7.
R7: SC EVEN around. (6)
– Add a SC in each stitch, connecting the “lower” R4 stitches with the “higher” R6 stitches. You should have a total stitch count of 6.
R8-10: EVEN (6)
– Stuff lightly.
* F/O and weave in ends. See the ASSEMBLY section for more information.
TIP: Because the tail is so tiny, I used a thin wooden skewer to help push the stuffing into place.

ASSEMBLY
Place the googles on the head to judge where the tail and legs are placed.

EYES
• Place the goggles on the head to see how big you want the eyes to be and where they will be placed.
• Using black felt, cut out long, narrow ovals of the same size.
• Pin the eyes in place. Remove goggles from the head.
• Sew the eyes on using black thread.
• Once you sew the black eyes on, place the googles back on the head.
This will help you center and place the other pieces.

LEGS
• Use white or yellow thread to sew the legs to the feet.
• Now sew the legs to the body.
* Alternatively, you can F/O and leave a yarn tail to sew the legs to the feet and to the body.

TAIL
• Use white thread to sew the tail to the center, lower back of the body.
* Alternatively, you can F/O and leave a yarn tail to sew the the tail to back of the body.
