Bomb-omb with Pipe Cleaner Wind-Up Key ☆FREE Pattern☆

$0.00

Super Mario Bros. are da bomb! Digging through the 80s for fun toys.

Bomb-ombs are living, moving mechanical bombs with eyes, feet, and a wind-up key in the back. As strange as that sounds, it is now a classic villain that Mario and Luigi have to avoid.

ASSEMBLY
* Download the PDF for photo instructions.

FEET and LEGS
1. Using the yarn tail, sew a foot to one of the legs. F/O and hide the tail.
2. Using the yarn tail, sew a leg securely to the body. F/O and hide the tail.

WICK and BASE
1. Take the bottom part of your wick base and add a bit of stuffing.
2. Sew on the top part to create a disc. You should still have a long enough blue tail for step #4.
3. Once the base is completed, sew the wick to the center circle (R1: magic ring). F/O and hide the wick’s tail (white).
4. Once the wick is secured to the base, find the centre of the body/head. Use the tail (blue) to sew everything to the top of the body.

EYES
Take some white felt and cut out a long oval shape. For e.g., 6 stitches tall and 4 stitches wide.

WIND-UP KEY
* Download the PDF for photo instructions.
1. Take a standard pipe cleaner and cut it to 15 cm / 5.9” length (cut it shorter if you want a smaller wind-up key). A yellow pipe cleaner is perfect, otherwise the color may appear between your stitches, as you can see in the photos.
2. Form a circle and twist the ends so no pointy edges just out. You might find pliers to be helpful to press down the ends.
3. Tie your yellow yarn to the pipe cleaner and begin to single crochet all the way around. Try to keep the stitches as close together as possible, especially if your pipe cleaner isn’t yellow.
4. Single crochet all the way around again.
5. Fasten off and leave a long tail.
6. Pinch the top and bottom of the pipe cleaner together so it looks like a number eight. You don’t need to twist it, just bring the two parts together.
7. Thread the yellow tail through the yarn needle and sew the top and bottom together.
8. If the pipe cleaner appears between your stitches, go around with the needle and sew over the spaces, hiding it with the yarn.
9. Make sure your needle ends up in the centre and sew the wind-up key to the “stub”.
10. Pull the needle through the stub and out the centre of the other side.
11. Sew the stub (with wind-up key already attached) to the back of the body.
– F/O and hide the tail.

Now you’re done! Hope you enjoy your very own Bomb-omb.
